Brian Afton: some of the places I have been and jobs I have worked on: Work Summary pg3 |

A finishing Machine used to de-burr automatic transmission gears. It accepts the gears as fast as they can be fed into it. |
These machines are distinguished now by the fact that every single one of them was created using nothing more complicated than a #2 lead pencil. It is easy to lose sight of the fact that CAD machines still cannot design machinery like this. Only designers can do that. This machinery was also completed and shipped in a time frame which would be absolutely impossible for so-called modern companies to even contemplate. If we had the computers which exist now, we have done even better because we knew how. . |

This shows one pair of the polishing contra-rotating brushes which also oscillate from side to side. The unit has complex pneumatic and electrical systems. |
The machine automatically turns the gears over and de-burrs both sides. The unit at the left end de-magnetizes the parts. |

Large Agricultural Pump |
This boiler feed pump went to a refinery in Brazil. I worked on hundreds of pumps over the years. These machines were often built to complex specs and had extensive lube and sealing systems. We pumped asphalt, sulfur and many dangerous things. When you are pumping gasoline at a huge refinery, there can't be any leaks or screw-ups.
